Today I’m sharing a custom lantern tutorial. I loved the idea of having a lantern that you can change through the seasons by just changing a couple things. That’s what decorating all about right.

It’s a simple home decor project you can have done in no time! I also think this would make an AMAZING wedding or housewarming gift for someone. Let’s get started and I’ll show you how simple this custom lantern tutorial is to make.

Step 1. Lets start off by picking out our lantern and vinyl. I choose this lantern because it had a lot of real estate on the front to work with. It has a TON of lantern options to choose from for a project like this.

Step 2. Now it’s time to pick out our phrase for the front of the lantern. I went into the Silhouette library and found several phrase options I wanted to use for the project. Make sure to measure the front of the lantern for your perfect sizing.

Step 3. Your phrase on blade setting 3. I then used the weeding tool to all the excess vinyl from the design.

Step 4. Next use transfer tape to transfer the design to the front of the lantern.

Smooth with a scraper tool and carefully remove the transfer tape. Voila!! See how easy that was to do!

Step 5. Now it’s time to decorate the inside of the lantern. My favorite was of course adding candles. But your can add the succulent tree shells moss plants etc. to the inside.

I made three different looks for this post to give you a couple ideas for inspiration.

I paired this lantern up with this beautiful Succulent plant. The plant also looks amazing on the inside of the lantern but for photo purposes I placed the plant next to it.

If you know me then you know I’m ALL about coastal decor. I added some shells to the inside for the perfect beachy touch!

My classic take for this lantern was just adding some moss around the LED candles and pairing it up with that gorgeous cacti plant.

I really loved how these turned out. I think you can change out your sayings for different seasons or holidays. Halloween add a spooky saying with pumpkins inside. Christmas time add mini trees and snow. The possibilities are endless for a project like this!
